Fatema 

 

Fatema Begum is a mother of three living in

Langal Jura village in Jamalpur. Her

husband is a farmer. They have two daughters and one son. Their oldest daughter is married whilst her other two children are still attending school. Fatema has been sewing quilts for many years to bring in additional income to support her family and enable her children to attend school.

 

 

 

Hazera

 

Hazera is married and her husband is a

grocery shop owner in Jamalpur. They have

one daughter and one son. She embroiders

quilts and with this additional income they

can afford to enrol their son to school. She

has requested more quilt orders so that she

can continue to send her son to school.

 

 

 

Rena

 

Rena lives in Shorisha Bari in Jamamlpur.

Her husband died four years ago.She has

two sons. The income she makes by sewing

quilts goes part way to support her family.

Her elder son is now working to support

their family too. She is grateful for the

sewing orders we give her and the wage

that we pay.

 

 

 

 

Asma

 

Asmalives in Gouripur, Mymensingh. Her

husband is an auto rickshaw driver and she

embroiders quilts.They have two daughters

and a son. As parents they work hard so that

their children can be educated. Asma enjoys

sewing the quilts and is happy with her poor

family.

 

 

 

 

Kona

 

Kona is a single woman with a disability. She

cannot walk. She is able to sew quilts sitting

on her bed. Despite the difficulties of

completing this work Kona persists because

she needs to earn a living. She is paid a

generous wage for her embroidery work.
